We have been coming here for a while now ! We love it and my son loves it so much . It taught him how to be smart and use his mind in a different way, and give him the skills to defend himself. My 5 years started the ninja class and he LOVES being challenged and it def does that for him . Both kids respect Master Cooper and love him very much . 100% recommend them.

Four weeks ago I decided to try out the Taekwondo class NEMA offers. I did not know what to expect really. I walked in and was greeted by Master Red, wearing her red uniform, tall, beautiful, Russian woman. I was intimated and unsure what I was actually getting myself into. Master Red assured me I would like Taekwondo as I showed interest in kicks. She also mentioned how she was 30 when she first tried this out, giving me more confidence in myself before entering class.

Master Red walked me into the dojo to observe the advanced kids class Master Cooper was teaching. All I could think about was "why did I wait 31 years to try this out!?" The kids were learning how to use nunchucks! It caught my attention. Master Red made the decision very easy for me, offering me several different options after I tested the class out myself.

The next class, I received my bag with sparring gear and the uniform and white belt I will wear for classes.

I attended my first basic skills class for teens/adults taught by Master Cooper. What I enjoyed about the first day experience was the variety of different levels each student has accomplished. I love being able to practice with different levels as everyone has some advice they can offer and help with. The best part for me is that I am learning useful skills, getting a great work out, and have a place where I can defuse the day/week and leave my worries at the door.

I have learned how to do several kicks, kick combos, spin kicks, round house, side, back, and a punch - kick combo. I have gone to a couple sparring classes, one sparring class held each week. I was paired up with my fellow adult white belt student in my first sparring day. It was a bit scary to be paired with a male at first. However, as new students, we didn't spar like the other students, we got to practice combos on each other. So allowing your partner to hit/kick you and vice versa. One reason for this is to get the body used to getting hit so you gain the endurance needed for actual sparring. I enjoyed getting to practice but also being able to watch the other students spar against each other. It gave me the full picture of what to expect and how far I can move up with practice and effort. One day I will be the one learning to use nunchucks!

NEMA uses Google classroom for additional resources, knowledge & homework. The homework assigned are a series of workouts for the month which are shown in a short video for the student to complete and upload to Master Cooper for grading. I love this design because the students are responsible to ensure they continue to condition and train their bodies outside of classes. It also gives Master Cooper an idea as to where each individual student is at in their training on a private platform rather than in front of all the other students. Being disciplined to complete exercises and practice kicks outside of class will only help you master the skills you are aiming for. Self-discipline.

I am still very new to this but wanted to write a brief review of how I like my first month with NEMA so far. I will post an updated review when I am closer to the 3-4 month mark!

I am 31 and female, this is the best purchase I could've made for my well-being. It is never too late to try something new. I'm happy with my enrollment at NEMA in Marlborough.

Master Cooper and Master Red are phenomenal. Through their collaboration, passion, and tireless work ethic they have created more than a school; it is a welcoming community that is focused on building discipline, professionalism, grit, integrity, self-awareness, inter and intrapersonal skills, compassion, self-worth, and honor in all of their students. With his high expectations, Master Cooper diligently works at reaching all students, regardless of their abilities. My son is hard of hearing and is aided with a cochlear implant; which mean he interacts with his world much differently than most children. Master Cooper and Master Red have created adaptions so that my son can effectively, joyfully, and actively engage in class. I am grateful that my son has a place where he knows that he is included, empowered, and welcomed. His study of Taekwondo has allowed him to improve his focus, coordination, and impulsivity. My son looks forward to his two classes every week with Master Cooper and Master Red. I look forward to watching my son blossom under Master Cooper's and Master Red's guidance over the years. Stop looking for an exceptional Taekwondo school. This is the one for you and your family!

We would like to take this chance to show our biggest appreciation to Master Cooper and Master Red in NEMA! We're so blessed to know what's Martial Arts, and that our son has turned into a stronger person now. I remember 3yrs back he never put perseverance in anything he learned, as his sense of sports is rather weak, but with the encouragement from Master Cooper, he is able to make through almost all challenges! This is the best school we highly recommend!

My son began his Nema Journey at his 4 years old, now he is almost 6!during this long period training, he become strong and brave. He learned how to be a brave boy and do not give up before you try your best!

He doesn’t like the tag game or any chasing game. Master Copper never pushed him to involve in any game he doesn’t like. He respected the kid, and also will give some good advice to parents.

Thanks to Master Cooper and Master Red, a good place and professional coach.

It’s now been 4 years and change since we have joined New England Martial Arts. It has been an awesome experience to see Janelis grow in this journey. With the help and support of Master Cooper and Master Red both Janelis and I have made many strides. If you’re looking for a school where the Masters genuinely care about the instruction and their students look no further. You have found it! I know we certainly did and it was the best decision we made!! Thanks so much Master Cooper and Master Red !

My older son started NEMA 5 years ago and the younger one 1 year ago, each at age 5. We are very happy to have made this decision as the boys really love to go there. What is more important for us as parents, is that the belts are honestly earned and the kids learn to master Taekwondo and constantly progress. Master Cooper is highly skillful and also great in a way that he engages all kids during the class, and he can be tough and supportive at the same time. He really cares about each of his students. Another benefit of NEMA is the Kickboxing lessons for parents after kids class, so it is a one-stop shop for many of us here!! I highly recommend NEMA to all kids and their parents!

Both Masters of NEMA are so good to the kids and are so patient with all students. Sitting in the parents area, we can see how both masters enjoy their job and love what they both do. I see how they enjoy teaching the kids and how all students are always so entertained with what they are learning. Every class is a new skill and it’s so nice to see how encouraging both masters are and have so much hope in their student’s growth. They are both always so proud of their student’s accomplishments and are always willing to help when a student needs help. I am so proud of how much my son has grown and learned at NEMA, each class is a new lesson that helps my kid conquer the next day, he learns so many life lessons that help him daily. And most importantly is learning how to protect himself in the real world. I am so thankful to both masters and their kindness.

11/8/2022 update: we have been going to this school for over 7 years and it is a perfect fit for our kids. Respect and confidence in yourself are key themes that help the kids to develop independence and this school teaches that and more.

This center is amazing. Although they have their moments, like all kids, my 5 year old twins LOVE Master Cooper and truly listen/absorb what he tells them. Master Cooper is so patient with each of the kids, regardless of attention span/skill/confidence level. I love that he begins teaching discipline, confidence in yourself and respect at such a young age. These skills are transferable to every aspect of life and this is a wonderful place to learning them.

Well, this review is about Master Cooper personally, who for fact has an internal great passion for what he does. I met him at the young age of 17, still was a kid who needed forward guidance. In school, through a group of friends he came introduced by, friends who put together an after school learning activity class, which in our case was, Capoeira! When this came to be, none of us kids in the group knew any good about martial arts, neither Capoeira, back in the days, broad access to content likewise today was not an option, so, in order to bring a cultural martial art oversees to teach to a couple of “knuckle heads ” like us, it was a challenge I’m sure. Master Cooper accepted this challenge; he used this as fuel and motivation, driving the team forward, overcoming all boundaries, soon the results started to show but even though, he was persistent in our classes, taking the team to the last mile. Months went by and the group was ready for our fist capoeira presentation, it was a total success. With this accomplished, Master Cooper introduced us to different martial art, taekwondo, the combination of the two, leveraged and enhanced performance to an unexpected higher level! Throughout this journey, many, many and many life discipline, manners and respect were learned, this certainly help me put my mind in track. Other life lessons taught by Master Cooper such as breaking self-limitation, encouragement, focus, purpose, determination and discipline are things that I cannot put in to words to describe. Nowadays everything makes sense of what this genius was accomplishing, helping others from the heart (for free), regardless of who you are, with the tool that he had in hand at the time (Martial art and Discipline) , to make a difference in other people’s life. MasterCooper, I’m very grateful for all I have learned from you, this are attributes I carry on until this day and are to be passed on to future generations. Thank you Master Cooper, I wish you and your family the best! Kind regards, Leandro Siqueira.

My husband and I often say that signing our son up for classes at New England Martial Arts was one of the best things we ever did for him. At a young age, he’s learning such important life lessons. He’s been at NEMA for almost a year and in that time we’ve already seen growth in him physically and with his ability to persevere through difficult tasks. Master Cooper is a true educator, incorporating fun and humor into lessons while still having high expectations of his students. He and Master Red embody the creed that they teach their students. We highly recommend this school and the incredible instructors.

Update: we moved to California last year and really struggled to find a new Taekwondo academy as good as NEMA. We joined a pretty good one but it does not come close to NEMA. My son misses Master Cooper very much, he recently said that he was the best Master ever. And I agree. If you’ve been thinking about signing up your child at NEMA, stop thinking about it and just do it. You won’t regret it!

Top notch instructors and facility! Your kids will get a great workout while learning the value of teamwork, respect, commitment and discipline! Highly recommend!

When we signed up at NEMA, my son was reluctant to take martial arts classes let alone spar and/or kick anyone. After 3+ years, he is now on the Competition Team and under the guidance of Master Cooper has been winning First Place medals in his division for sparring! Taekwondo is a sport that instills discipline and focus from within. We are so grateful for NEMA to teach the fundamentals of martial arts in an environment that is enjoyable yet teaches students the importance of accountability and dedication. My son has so much confidence in himself now and truly enjoys his time at the school. It’s amazing to watch your child grow physically and emotionally through this sport. We are excited to see what the future holds.

New England Martial Arts Athletic Center is an exceptional institute for those seeking to learn martial arts, particularly Taekwondo. As a parent, I highly recommend this center for anyone seeking to enroll their child in an exercise program or self-defense training.
The center boasts highly skilled and friendly instructors who create a welcoming and supportive learning environment for students of all levels, from beginners to advanced Black Belts.
Under the guidance of Master Cooper, my daughter has received top-notch training from the best masters in the field. Master Cooper demonstrates a genuine passion for teaching kids and takes a personalized approach with each student, ensuring that their individual needs and skills are taken into account. This not only helps build a strong foundation for the students' martial arts practice, but also instills in them values such as respect, discipline, and confidence.
One of the things that sets New England Martial Arts Athletic Center apart from other martial arts schools is their commitment to keeping the training fresh and challenging. After a few months of training, students are invited to take a belt test, and based on their skills, they may be asked to join a new program that matches their energy and skill level. This approach encourages children to continue learning and progressing in their martial arts practice, and keeps them motivated and engaged.

Master Red is an outstanding teacher and manager of the school. She plays a crucial role in keeping families and children informed, motivated, and happy. Thanks to the excellent instruction and welcoming community at New England Martial Arts Athletic Center, my daughter has gained confidence, patience, humility, and pride, and has learned valuable skills that will serve her well throughout her life.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a martial arts school that offers excellent instruction, a friendly environment, and a sense of community, New England Martial Arts Athletic Center is the perfect choice.

My son Gabriel, age 6, is a child that thrives when challenged yet demands structure and discipline. From the very beginning at New England Martial Arts it was clear that instruction with Master Cooper and Master Red was precisely what he needed. The children are treated with earned respect and the instructors demand it in kind. Everything at the studio is “yes, sir”, “no, sir” and that has bled into his home life with “yes, mom” and “yes, dad” becoming a regular occurrence. The classes are not easy, Master Cooper stresses that he is developing them as citizens and in order to do so the kids work hard. We’ve only been going for about a month however my favorite class was a 40 minute class where the kids did non-stop sprints, burpees, push ups, lunges and bear crawls. It was exceedingly challenging for my son however he felt a tremendous sense of pride getting through it. Master Cooper also forces the children to consider concepts like respect, integrity and the like.

Forging a young person with pride, respect and discipline is not an easy task and even at this early juncture I can see we are on our way. I would offer my strongest recommendation for New England Martial Arts without hesitation.

Addendum 8/1/23: on a Saturday morning I was attempting to make breakfast for my kids while also on speakerphone with my boss. I asked my son Gabriel if he wanted more strawberries and he reflexively replied “yes, sir.” My boss heard this and he was obviously impressed. I thank Master Cooper and Master Red for the culture of discipline within their center that bleeds out into the lives of their students.

My daughter Lilly and I love NEMA. Both Master Cooper and Master Red are the most wonderful! Respect, compassion and hard work - that’s what is emphasized and taught. No easy roads in like - they keep it real. Kids genuinely love it and it’s a joy to see! From the very beginning you become FAMILY. Kids help each other. Amazing place, my 8 year old loves it here. He's been going to NEMA for almost 2 years, and we've seen an amazing growth in physical strength, self-confidence and discipline.

Master Red and Master Cooper are very encouraging and nurturing, such that the kids learn TaeKwonDo along with discipline, yet the environment makes it a fun and encouraging environment for them.

I liked the program's additional emphasis on building self-confidence, self-esteem, defence against bullies, getting parents more engaged with the kids' lessons and home practice, etc.

Master Cooper engages the kids in a neat balance of learning technique, along with exercising core muscles and building stamina, while introducing cool humor. I've observed a couple of kids who started really shy at first, but are now fully involved and participating in just a few sessions.

We're here for the long term, all the way to black belt for my kids.

Highly recommend this place!

My son started at NEMA three years ago as a Little Dragon and is now in the BBC working up the ranks. I have been continually impressed with Master Cooper’s instruction, and his and Master Red’s support in my son’s progress. But above all NEMA provides a supportive and disciplined environment with a strong focus on children’s development in the physical domain, as well as the mental and emotional domain. My son’s confidence and determination has grown, as has his physical capabilities. Watching the students have so much fun from the sidelines spurred me to join the action. Now that I have joined Master Red’s kickboxing class ( which is a killer and very satisfying workout) we are bonding even more through martial arts! Thanks NEMA!

My son has been training at NEMA for little over a year. He started martial arts training first at a different place, where he did not receive guidance and courage like from Master Cooper and Master Red. Not only martial art skills but also how to develop self confidence and develop the physical & mental strength each day at training. Now is now a different person (compared to who he was a year ago) who is mentally & physically stronger and confidence about himself thanks to all the training and guidance he received from Master Cooper and Master Red. Facility is nice and clean as well. We strongly recommend NEMA.

Master Cooper is an amazing teacher and encourages kids to reach their true potential along with fun on mat. Post Covid times, my teenage son had some challenges with self—confidence and body flexibility. It’s been 2 years and i see huge difference in my son’s attention span, self-confidence, flexibility and social skills. Master cooper intelligently focus on disciple, pushing hard to break the limitations and fun at the same time. There is lot of energy on the mat every single time! Master cooper interacts with parents’ too and provides feedback/appreciation about kids consistently.

Hands down the BEST martial arts school! I’ll say that a little louder for the people in the back: the BEST martial arts school!! The staff is very responsive and compassionate. Master Cooper and Master Red make you feel like family. A comfortable place for all ages to learn and grow strong!
We have been coming to NEMA for several years. Our son enjoys the Taekwondo and Ninja programs. The main program includes Olympic taekwondo techniques, sparring, nunchucks, Bo staff, Kali sticks, board breaking, Korean vocabulary, capoeira, boxing, jiu jitsu and more! Overall it’s been a great experience at NEMA and I’m of my proud of my daughter’s journey so far in Master Cooper’s class. I enrolled my daughter in Martial Arts to help with certain behavioral issues that were arising at school and to support emotional regulation. Within the last 6 months a competitive spirit has bloomed, and in challenges where she would lose and then cry/breakdown, she now accepts the loss in a way that encourages her to do better and recognizes the effort she made. The class is definitely an effort on both the child and the parent, but worth it. I appreciate Master Red’s support and Master Cooper’s influence on the kids.
